When selecting a picture to copy, make sure it is large and clear. You might wish to photocopy or do a computer printout rather than drawing directly on a photograph. You need an image with clear lines and edges - a blurry image makes it difficult to find a line to follow.
I must admit, I didn't use grid drawing as a tool to help me learn to draw. My sister kindly made a grid for me, on a transparency, but for a long time, I didn't get around to trying it out. So, I've been experimenting drawing with grids since I wanted to write about it as an optional drawing tool.
How to do Grid Method Drawing
When sizing-up from a sketch you can lightly draw a grid of regular lines on the drawing itself or (as with photographs) you can use a suitable, fine pen to draw your grid on an acetate sheet. The acetate method is preferable as you have a permanent, ready-to-hand grid for all occasions. The smaller you make your squares the more accurate your copy will be. I found that a grid of ½-inch (1cm) squares was quite adequate for a 6"×4" photograph. How To Use A Grid To Make Drawing Simple

I first learned how to use a grid for drawing in a high school geometry project where we had to enlarge a cartoon. Learn How to Draw Anything with a Grid
Using a grid to draw is like using training wheels to learn how to ride a bike. I used a grid for a little over a month and then all of a sudden I didn’t need to use grids any more. Painting Wall Murals : Drawing Grid Method
Although more advanced than painting wall murals with the projector method, another option for do it yourself mural painting is the drawing grid method. By drawing a square grid on your image and another square grid on the wall, you can draw a mural without using any special equipment. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: You Might Also Like the Following Resource Pages on This Site ...
