Today we’re going to learn how to draw chibi. What’s a chibi you might ask? Oh my oh my… Well, it’s kind of hard to explain. The Japanese word chibi means short or midget. This word is offensive if directed to a person but this is different. They are small size characters mostly taken from their original media counterparts i.e. naruto characters, bleach characters or any well known anime series or movie. They are short or child-like versions of the original character. They usually appear very cute to a lot of people and since almost everyone I know has asked me to draw them their very own chibi character I decided to create this tutorial. A few days ago I got a bleach chibi keychain. The character on the keychain is Ichigo and everyone thinks it's adorable. Since I'd always wanted to make a how to draw chibi tutorial on bleach, I decided to make this particular keychain the basis of the tutorial. Chibi Drawing! (aka Super Deformed)
Chibi Art (a.k.a Super Deformed): "Chibi" is a Japanese term for "small". Chibi art is used a lot to convey humour or cuteness (kawaii mono). It's a deceptively simple process I'll take you through now.
Chibi's are really simple to draw, providing you know the basics of anime. They usually have really big eyes and often don't have noses. Chibi's are much simpler than anime and are quicker to draw, depending on how much detail you put into them. Chibi proportions are smaller than anime, they are about 3 heads high. Note: This tutorial is an old one. I will update it with a new one as soon as I have time.
First a little background info on chibi or super-deformed (SD) characters they are cute no matter how you draw them, they can be used to express extreme emotion, or used completely as a char. Chibi is the Japanese word for small, keep that in mind when drawing. chibis are typically two heads high, one for the Head one for the rest of the body, this is why they look small.
