Since many of you have enjoyed our Turkey drawing tutorial that we posted the other day, I decided to do a second turkey drawing lesson for those of you who want a different cartoon-style turkey to draw.  I  have put together a step-by-step tutorial that will help you figure out how to draw  cartoon turkeys by using simple shapes to build up this turkey’s form. This is an intermediate cartooning tutorial that kids, teens, and adults will enjoy. Even some younger children might be able to draw turkeys if you stand by to help with the instructions. Enjoy!

How to Draw Turkeys for Thanksgiving and Farm  Animals Step by Step Drawing Tutorial for Kids, Teens, and Adults – VERSION 2

The above picture of a cartoon turkey is what we will be drawing step by step today. Find this drawing tutorial below. Get out a piece of paper, a pencil, and a black marker. Good luck.

Step 1

Take out your piece of paper and your pencil..we are about to sketch. Look at the picture above. I know that this doesn’t look anything like the finished turkey picture  that you are attempting to draw…but I will explain why the picture above looks so strange.  Well, what I was trying to show you (in the picture above) was that the turkey is made up of a bunch of simple shapes. Well, I want you to be able to visualize this so you can start to draw images more easily. So take out your pencil and lightly draw the turkey’s simpler shapes the way that I did above. Don’t worry about mistakes because you can erase these later. Later, you will be using a pen or marker to outline the ‘right’ lines.

Step 2

Draw a large half circle behind the turkey as well as rectangles below the body (parts of the turkey’s legs).

Step 3

Draw 2 circles for the turkey’s eyes…also draw his eyelids.

Step 4

Draw the turkey’s pupils and one of his eyebrows.

Step 5

Now draw an oval shape for the turkey’s beak as well as a smile.

Step 6

Draw the turkey’s ‘snood’ (the thing that hangs down over the turkey’s beak. You can draw it to sort of look like a spoon.

Step 7

Now reshape the oval beak a little bit, as show above. Also reshape the rectangle wings that we drew as well …draw a bunch of ‘V’ like shapes for the ends of the wings.

Step 8

Draw an oval-like shape at the end of the right wing.

Step 9

Now draw ‘U’ like shapes inside the oval for the turkey’s fingers (even though turkeys don’t really have fingers).

Step 10

Now draw the part below the turkey’s face (the caruncles) … just draw curvy ‘W’ like shapes. Do the same for the legs.

Step 11

Turn the big half circle into feathers. Basically draw a bunch of  upside down ‘L’s.

Step 12

Now draw the curved feather markings…just a bunch of upside down ‘U’ type shapes like seen above.

Step 13

Draw a bunch of sideways ’3′s for feather markings. Now draw ’3′s for the turkey feet.

Step 14

Now draw backwards ’3′ shapes for the other side of the turkey’s feet.

Step 15

Now draw the turkey’s hat – an oval and a cone type shape.

Step 16

Draw the pilgrim hat’s belt.  Also notice that I erased a bunch of the lines that weren’t need anymore.

Step 17

Now just draw the ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ sign that the turkey is holding.

Step 18

Now you just have to erase lines that you don’t need and outline the ‘correct’ lines with a black pen or marker. Making thick, interesting lines instead of the thin pencil lines makes quite a differnce in the end result, doesn’t it? If you are having problems figuring out which lines to erase, then reference my drawing (above) for help. Now you will have an amazing cartoon turkey drawing to show off to your friends and family at the Thanksgiving dinner table.
