Today we will be learning how to draw a cartoon horse’s face / head. With easy step by step instructions, you will be able to build up the form of the horse’s face. This is an intermediate cartooning tutorial. You might also enjoy our drawing lesson – How to Draw Cartoon Horses.

How to Draw Cartoon Horse Head / Face with Easy Step by Step Drawing Instructions

Step 1

First, draw a long rectangle-like shape pointing downwards and to the right, as pictured above.

Step 2

Now at the bottom right side of the rectangle, change the shape up a bit like I did above.

Step 3

Now draw a line for where the horse’s mouth will be (at the bottom right). Draw where the eye and ear will go. Also draw a ‘T’ like shape for the cheek and neck of the horse.

Step 4

Now that we have the basic shape down, lets refine the shape a bit. I have highlighted different shapes with different colors to help you figure out how to draw the horse’s face. In yellow, you can see a ‘J’ like shape. In blue, you can see a ‘W’ like shape. In pink, you can see a ‘L’ like shape, and in green you can see a backwards ‘J’ like shape.

Step 5

Draw a sideways bubble letter ‘U’ like shape for the horse’s nostril. Also draw some other details that have been added.

Step 6

Add a bit more details.

Step 7

Use your watercolors, markers, colored pencils, crayons, or chalk to color the horse’s face and you will have an amazing horse face / head drawing to show off to your friends.
