To Sketch or Not to Sketch

I have tried to keep a sketchbook before and each time I don't follow through and sketch every day. Drawing is my favorite thing to do....so why is it such a struggle to get myself to keep a sketchbook journal. Should I force myself to sketch in a daily sketchbook or should I just doodle when I feel like it? Is there really a benefit to sketching every day in a drawing journal?

hmm, yeah, doodle when you feel like it! I thought about keeping a sketch book and drawing every day, but some days I don't feel like it, so when you get an urge to, draw as much as possible! hope this helps. ^^

I kinda have the same problem . . .I want to keep a sketch-book to make a drawing in it everyday but usually I don't feel like it.

You don't have to force yourself to draw every single day.  Then it becomes a chore, not a hobby (that's why it's so hard!).  However, if you want to get better at drawing then yes, it's essential to draw every day or every other day.  It's harder (I know!) but it'll be worth it.  Here's how to make it easier:

Decide what you want to get better at.  Drawing outlines? cross hatching? smudging? drawing circles? making realistic faces?

make a collection of interesting items for inspiration. toys, acorns, pictures of friends or pets. keep them in a special box that's easy to reach.  Practice drawing by using these references!

You don't have to complete a whole drawing in one day.  You could take 10 minutes every day to draw. EX. day one: block in picture, day two: add details, day three: shade, day four: add final details.

Try some or all of these tips.  Remember, you don't have to draw everyday, but be prepared just in case inspiration hits you!
