Now we will show you how to draw cartoon pelicans, a type of bird that hangs around oceans because they eat fish. That is what they have such huge beaks…they can hold huge amounts of fish in their beaks. Follow this drawing lesson, including illustrated steps, to draw your own pelican picture.

The line that you see is called the line of action – it shows the direction that the body and balancing in. Draw a circle and a pear shape along this line.
Connect the circle and pear with a bubble-letter ‘J’ like shape. Also draw guidelines around the circle face to help place the facial features. Then draw an oval for the eye. Also draw the sideways number ‘2’ like shape below the eye.
Now draw the feet…a sideways number ‘3’ like shape. Draw the leg. Also draw the tail, a sideways letter ‘v’ like shape.
Now draw the beak. Draw a backwards letter ‘J’ for the bottom of the beak …then just draw a slightly curved line for the top of the beak. Draw a smile for the middle line. Draw an oval inside the eye for the pupil / iris and draw a lid by drawing a line. draw 2 upside down letter ‘u’ shapes on the top of the head as well.
Lightly draw ovals for the wings…and then but in more details like the picture that you see below.
This is what the pelican should look like when finished. I hope that your pelican turned out great and that you had a lot of fun drawing him.
Color him in if you want. Pelicans are usually white and gray but I thought that since it is a cartoon, I would use light blue. Choose for yourself.
