When drawing the human ear be careful about placing it on the right spot and at the correct angle. The ear is placed at the outer edge of the jawbone and the angle runs parallel with the length of the nose. A well-drawn ear is a thing of beauty. The curved forms should be very carefully observed and followed. Many a fine study of the human head is spoiled by shoddily drawn ears. These drawings are from an old book by Willy Pogany.
Study on Drawing Ears – Take a Look at How These Ears Have Been Drawn
Notice how the shadows on the ears are darkest inside the ears…that is because there is less light on this portion of the ear. The outer rim of the ears has the most light….using this knowledge, you can draw ears with a more 3-dimensionality to them.
