Today I will show you how to draw a cartoon dog (I think a terrier). The actual drawing is by the great Ken Hultgren, who was a great cartoonist back in his day. I thought it was cute and you would want to learn how to draw it too, so I broke it down for you below. Happy Drawing!

Written-Out Step by Step Drawing Instructions

(Step 1) Draw 2 ovals to form a #8. Either lightly draw the blue portions of the lines or don’t draw them at all.

(Step 2) Draw 2 ovals for eyes.

(Step 3) Draw 2 ovals inside each eye. Don’t draw the blue portions of the ovals.

(Step 4) Draw a curved line over each eye. Draw a sideways “C” shape for the nose.

(Step 5) Draw a curved line at the bottom of the nose and over the nose.

(Step 6) Draw 2 sideways “?”-like shapes. Don’t draw the dots though.

(Step 7) Draw some curved lines.

(Step 8) Draw 2 sideways “M” shapes. Draw a curved line.

(Step 9) Draw an “S”-like shape in the left ear. Draw a sideways check mark shape on top of the dog’s head.

(Step 10) Draw some #7-like shapes.

(Step 11) Draw some curved lines as well as another “M” shape.

(Step 12) Draw a sideways #3 shape on top of the bottom oval. Erase the parts of the oval that were only supposed to be drawn lightly. Draw a sideways “D” shape for each nostril.

(Step 13) Draw some curved lines. Draw #9-like shapes in the nose.

(Step 14) Draw a #5-like shape under the snout. Draw some curved lines.

(Step 15) Draw an “M” shape. Draw an inner outline to the mouth.

(Step 16) Draw a “V” shape on the left side. Draw 2 curved lines on the right side that look like an upside down “V”.

(Step 17) Draw a bunch of curved lines.

(Step 18) Draw some more curved lines.

(Step 19) Draw a line straight across. Don’t draw the blue dotted lines. Draw a sideways #3 shape in his mouth for the tongue.

(Step 20) Draw some lines and a sideways “L”-like shape.

(Step 21) Erase un-needed lines.
