Turtles are adorable, with their silly shells and a head and legs that pop out of the shell. I thought that it would be fun to draw cartoon turtles today so I have put together a simple step by step tutorial for kids of all ages, teens, and adults. Build up the turtle’s form with simple shapes, letters, and numbers. Enjoy the cartooning lesson.

How to Draw Cartoon Turtles with Easy to Follow Drawing Lesson

Step 1

Draw the basic shape of the turtle’s body. Draw an oval for the turtle’s body…rectangle’s for legs…and for the head.

Step 2

Find the center of the turtle’s head by drawing a guideline up the center vertically and horizontally. Draw an oval for the eye in the upper right square. Draw a capital letter ‘T’ like shape for the turtle’s mouth and chin. Also draw a curved line below the chin.

Step 3

Draw a curved line from the left of the mouth to the middle of the turtle’s eye. Also draw an eyelid. And then draw a curved line from the eyelid to below the bottom of the square.

Step 4

Now draw the turtle’s back eye. Draw the eyelid across to help you figure out where to draw the turtle’s eye.

Step 5

Draw a backwards number ‘3’ to the left of the turtle’s neck. draw a bubble letter ‘L’ (highlighted in yellow). Draw a sideways letter ‘v’ for the turtle (highlighted in green).

Step 6

Draw a letter ‘s’ (highlighted in green) below the number ‘3’ that you drew in step #5. Draw the upper part of the shell (highlighted in yellow). Then draw the pi shape or draw a blocky letter ‘u’ (highlighted in blue) with 2 lines pointed outwards (highlighted in pink).

Step 7

Now draw the bottom of the turtle (highlighted in yellow). Draw a backwards number ‘3’ and a forwards number ‘3’ (highlighted in pink) for the legs. Also draw a letter ‘c’ like shape (highlighted in blue).

Step 8

Draw the turtle’s nails by drawing curvy letter ‘m’s with an extra hump (highlighted in blue). Also finish off the turtle’s legs.

Step 9 – Finished Drawing of a Comic Style Cartoon Turtle Tutorial

Now just erase lines that you don’t need and outline the ‘correct’ lines with a black pen or marker. Making thick, interesting lines instead of the thin pencil lines makes quite a difference in the end result, doesn’t it? If you are having problems figuring out which lines to erase, then reference my drawing (above) for help. Now you will have an amazing cartoon drawing of a cartoon whimsical turtle to show off to your friends.
