How to Draw Cartoon Butterflies Drawing Tutorial for Preschoolers and Children

Do you want to learn how to draw a cartoon butterfly…then look no further. This is a great drawing tutorial for preschoolers, Kindergarteners, and young children. This would actually be a great lesson for any age, but it is especially easy because the entire butterfly can be built with simple shapes, letters, and numbers. Step 1

Firstly, draw a circle for the butterfly’s head.

Step 2

Secondly, draw a long letter ‘U’ shape for the butterfly’s body.

Step 3

Now draw a number ‘3’ shape on both sides of the body for the butterfly’s wings.

Step 4

Now draw a circle for each eye so that they look like a sideways number ‘8’.

Step 5

Now draw a letter ‘J’ shape for the first antenna. Draw a curved line for the smile.

Step 6

Draw another letter ‘J’ for the other antenna. Draw 2 curved lines on the butterfly’s body.

Step 7

Now draw a few circles….2 filled in circles for the eyes and 2 circles on top of the antennae.

Step 8

Now draw highlights in the butterfly’s eyes….the parts that are in the black part of the eye should be erased.

Black and White Drawing

Here is what the butterfly looks like finished. Now add designs inside the wings. These can be circles, squiggly lines, stars, diamonds, hearts…or whatever designs you want to make. Have fun.
